Beat the Autumn Blues

If you are anything like me, thoughts of the ever darkening weeks ahead will be sending you into hibernation mode! There is no doubt that it has an effect on the body clock and motivation levels. But fear not, there are ways to combat those Autumn and Winter Blues. The key is to be prepared and to make a few subtle lifestyle changes so you can get through the season with a smile rather than in a grump.

Follow the light

Our bodies are synced to the hours of daylight, so try and get as much natural light as you can. Make the most of the weekends and get out into the fresh air. Getting up earlier and going to bed earlier will also help.

Set a BIG Goal

It is easy to push back our goals until the New Year. It is better to do exactly the opposite, I encourage you to set a goal or two as it’s never the wrong time to achieve something great and keep your life moving forward. Get fitter, lose some weight, sign up for that 5k or 10k in the New Year.

Take care of YOU

Food is one of the ways we make ourselves happier. Do it in a more healthy way by being smart with food choices, in particular aim to increase the amount of vitamin C and D in your diet, this will help boost your energy levels and immune system.

Get Physical and Stay Positive

It is easy to hibernate and curl up on the sofa when it’s cold but if you’re feeling those seasonal blues, exercise is key. A workout will release all of those feel-good endorphins into the body making you feel happier and full of energy.
